Today we will be reviewing Metro 2033.

Story

It's set 20 years after nuclear war. You play Artom living in the Metro Stations underneath Moscow in the year 2033. You realize there is a new mutant that is threatening to destroy your station, so you set off through the metro tunnels in search for help to stop these new mutants.

Game play

In this game you will be fighting in tight corridors or metro tunnels against mutants and raiders. When fighting mutants usually its just pull the trigger a few times to kill the weaker mutants. Guns blazing works like any other first person shooter. When fighting raiders you usually have 2 options: guns blazing or stealth. but be warned stealth is very buggy and if one guys sees you every guy sees you.You can blow out candles which helps, but there are very few stealth type weapons. The stealth system is really buggy and can get really annoying especially when your trying to save ammo.

In this game there are two types of ammo, dirty ammo and military ammo. Dirty ammo is made in the metro buy people, while military ammo was made before the war and is used as currency in the metro. When your at a metro station you have the option to buy supplies and take a break from the action. You can either save this ammo to buy weapons, medkits, or filters for your gas masks. Also this ammo is very powerful and can kill most enemies with a few hits. This decision making on whether using this military ammo for money or killing enemies is really important and most of the time you need to make this decision quickly. There are medkits to quickly replenish health. Gas masks are needed for going on the surface or in areas with toxins in the air. But you also need to have filters for your gas masks if not you will suffocate. The signs on when you need to have filter is when your mask starts to fog up and breathing becomes heavier.

Sound

There are lots of ambient sounds from mutants roaring to bandits singing in Russian. Most of the weapons sound real, but some just don't sound right. There is very little to no ambient music in the game. Some sounds also have a delay and voice acting in English is that great. Luckily there is a mode were you can turn peoples voices into the oringnal Russian version with english subtitles.

Graphics

If you can run full Hi Res textures and DirectX 11 then you're in for one gorgeous game. Even on lower setting it still looks great but there are some odd model glitches that ruin the immersion sometimes.


Verdict

While it may not be the perfect game you wont really find the atmosphere in many other games. The combat when fighting monsters is fun but doing stealth is just plain annoying and buggy. The story is good but sometimes not enough is explained. The game is gorgeous and most of the sounds besides voice acting is spot on. It unfortunate that some of these bugs bring down this otherwise great game and should not be passed by any one who likes a good challenge. My final score is
